Sermon Highlights

The Bible is clear on how we get to Heaven.  The bottom line is that we can’t get there without our sins being forgiven.  Heaven is the final destination for us as Christians.  That means like Peter tells us in 1 Peter 2:11; “We are aliens and strangers in the world.”  As Christians we’re not home yet.  There is a day coming that we will die.  We will pass from this life to the next life forever and ever.

There is one thing that we can’t take with us into Heaven; that one thing is SIN.  But God took care of that for us.  1 Peter 3:18a tells us that, “For Christ died for sins once for all the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God…”  Without the sacrifice of Jesus Christ there is no way we can get into Heaven, because our sins would keep us out of Heaven.  There is no other way to get to Heaven except through Jesus Christ.  Period.  You see our sins had to be removed and that’s what John said Jesus did for us.  “John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).”  Jesus removes our sins and our old baggage when we accept Him as Lord and Savior of our life.

There may be a time in your life when you traveled outside the United States, but when you come back into the States, you have to go through Customs.  There are certain things that you cannot bring back into the country.  But there are people that try to smuggle them in illegally.  Some are able to get them through without getting caught.  But that will not be the case for when we die.  We will not be able to smuggle our sin through the Pearly Gates.  Our God knows all things!  Hebrews 4:13 tells us; “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.  Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”  Another words, we will not be able to smuggle sin into Heaven!

In Romans 3:23 it tells us that we are all sinners.  If that is the case then how do we get to Heaven?  Good question.  In 1 John 1:9 the Bible tells us; “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”  When we confess our sins to God, he forgives us and we are saved.  Even after we’re a Christian, we will fall (sin) from time to time.  Are we still saved?  Yes.  It’s like skating for the first time, you will fall down at times, but the more you skate the less you will fall.  The longer we walk with the Lord, the less times we will fall down (sin).  Even a pro skater will fall down from time to time.

So the bottom line is, if you believe that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God, and if you repented of your sins, and made Him Lord and Savior of your life, you are saved!
